New feature added

Those who read the previous post about the train the trainer sessions I am doing at work will have read that up until now there was no motivation to pick up unplanned work. You could easily leave all unplanned work in the Reported column, without impact. But that changed thanks to a hint of a colleague and agile coach: for each day unplanned work is not finished, your created value decreases, according to the priority:

  • -1 for low priority work

  • -3 for medium priority work

  • -5 for high priority work

This penalty should encourage teams to pick up unplanned work too, because it will hurt if they don't. This was the easiest way to implement such a penalty without needing to modify the cards for unplanned work. Of course this only makes sense if you keep track of the value creation. It adds gamification to the simulation (yes, you can win from your competing team).

The facilitator's guide, the quick reference card and the slide deck got updated with the information about this penalty. Check out the download section to find the updated reference material.

Hope you enjoy these new rules...
